Eindhoven, Voorburg, Wassenaar and Leidschendam
Eindhoven, Willemstraat 29 - Keizersgracht 18 - Willemstraat 29
The family house and dentist practice was at Willemstraat 29. When in May 1940 the battle on Dutch territory started, the family moved to Voorburg to stay with family. When after 5 days the battle was over, they moved back to Eindhoven. Their house became inhabitable after bombing at the end of March 1943, so they went again to their family in Voorburg. A few month's later the family relocated to an "emergency house" on Keizersgracht 18. When the house in the Willemstraat was repaired at the end of 1945 the family moved back.

Eindhoven has been bombed three times during WW II, besides several air raids. Two times (6 Dec. 1942 and 30 March 1943) by the RAF, to destroy the Philips radio and valve factories. The factory was situated in the middle of the town. The third time (19 September 1944) was a bombardment by the Germans to stop the Allied forces.

These are incendiary bombs, 20 cm diameter steel pipes about 70 cm long. Filled with phosphorous material which spurts out on impact. The one on the right did split open as it fell in the backyard on the brick fence cap. Another one sailed in through the kitchen window, Cor Hoogenbosch picked it up (burned his hands) and threw it back through the window.
